About

The aim of The Stanley Greene Legacy Prize & Fellowship is to support the work and professional aspirations of underrepresented photojournalists from the United States who create work that echoes the passion with which Stanley approached photography.

Stanley’s perspective was informed by his travels - he left home and went outside his comfort-zone in order to highlight the injustices of the world.

Applicants should be ready and willing to expand their worldview in a similar fashion. Simply put, the vision of photographers of color should be seen everywhere, at home and abroad, and the fellowship will help make that happen.

The one-year fellowship under the stewardship of Stanley’s colleagues at NOOR includes training, grant-writing support, and networking with media industry leaders to open pathways for the fellow’s work to reach wider audiences in the U.S. and Europe.

NOOR will promote and distribute the fellow’s body of work around the world.

The fellow will receive a $10,000 prize fellowship plus travel expenses for field reporting or research up to $2500

Applicants should be early-career photographers, in the first ten years of their professional career, who show great promise and an unquenchable desire to practice photojournalism with a purpose.

The fellow will be assigned a mentor from NOOR, and will be expected to check in regularly with their mentor, as well as engage with industry leaders in meetings arranged by NOOR.

What winner receives

The fellow will receive a $10,000 prize fellowship to work on a story/project, plus travel expenses for field reporting or research up to $2500. The fellow will be assigned a mentor from NOOR, and will be expected to check in regularly with their mentor, as well as engage with industry leaders in meetings arranged by NOOR.

NOOR

We are a global, multilingual collective of highly accomplished journalists, authors, photographers, artists and filmmakers documenting, investigating and witnessing our world. We approach our work with integrity, passion, and respect. We believe stories have an impact and inspire action. We believe in the power of still and moving images. We are honest witnesses. NOOR, which takes its name from the Arabic word for light, launched in 2007 as a platform for its members to take financial control over their work and leverage the power of a group in a changing media landscape. Since then we have become industry leaders, producing images for large media companies and small startups, institutional clients and non-profits. We also teach, host workshops and public programs around photography, media literacy and representation. And while the content of our work is broad, its unified in our desire to connect the dots around critical issues such climate change, over consumption, forced migration, the rise of authoritarianism, the injustices of patriarchy and the power of art and music to keep us human.

FAQ

Is there an age requirement?
18+

Can I apply If I don't live in Europe/US?
You can apply if you are from the US or resident working/living in the US. For international applicants, we will keep your applications on file for future awards from the Stanley Greene Legacy prize & Fellowship but they will not be considered for this award cycle.

Please contact us at fellowship@noorimages.com

I want to submit diptychs will they count as 1 image or 2 images towards my 20 image maximum?
Diptychs count as 1 image. The two images should coherently work together to be viewed as one image. Be careful not to include diptychs just to show more work

When will I be notified if I get selected?
You will be contacted by a member of the NOOR staff by email between December 1st to January 15th
