About

One hundred participants ( 50 students and 50 emerging photographers) will be selected solely on the merit of their portfolios and will be able to particiapte in the Eddie Adams workshop October 11-14, 2019 in Jeffersonville, NY.

About The Eddie Adams Workshop

The Eddie Adams Workshop is the only tuition-free photojournalism seminar of its kind. Applicants at the start of their career submit portfolios for consideration. One hundred participants selected solely on the merit of their pictures team up with top professional photographers and editors for a four-day gathering that includes assignments, portfolio reviews, panel discussions and presentations. The Workshop began in 1988 with the goal to redress the exclusivity of professional opportunities by accepting students based on their demonstrated skills, and not on their ability to pay tuition. The all-volunteer faculty and staff, many of whom are alumni, are passionate about the mission and donate their time and expertise. The Workshop, with chief support from Nikon, has an unparalleled history of nurturing talent, exchanging ideas and building relationships.

FAQ

What kinds of pictures should be in my portfolio?
Your portfolio should reflect your vision as a photographer. This is primarily a photojournalism-based workshop, so most of our students are documentary/news/sports/portrait/editorial photographers. We are not necessarily looking for a typical "news" portfolio (ie: one spot news photo, one sports, one feature, etc). Our portfolio reviewers are looking for a combination of talent and potential- we want to see your strongest work, whatever you feel that may be

Is there an age requirement?
No, any person who is a professional with a maximum of 5 years experience or in an undergraduate university program is encouraged to apply.

Am I a Professional or Student ?
A professional photographer is anyone who earns 50 percent of his or her annual income from photography. Professional photographers must have no more than 5 years of experience. Professional photographers with more than 5 years experience will be disqualified and acceptance will automatically be terminated upon discovery. A student is anyone attending an undergraduate university that will graduate in 2019 or later. Masters students are considered professionals.

I am a military photographer can I apply?
Yes we encourgae all military photographers to apply!

Can I apply If I don't live In the USA?
Yes! International applicants are welcome to apply. Our alumni consists of photographers from all over the world! However all workshop activity will be conducted in English.

Can I apply if I applied before and did not make it in?
Yes you may apply as many times as you want but you can only participate once.

Can I submit an artist statement to explain my series?
No, acceptance is based on the potential of each applicant based on the content and quality of images included in a portfolio.

I understand that images should contain no captions but can I leave the metadata in my files?
Yes, metadata that includes time stamp, location, copyright, date, camera settings are ok to leave.

I have video that I would like to submit?
Sorry but at this time, we do not accept any video submissions.

I am not a photojournalist, can I still apply?
Yes! The Eddie Adams Workshop accepts all genres of photography.

I want to submit diptychs will they count as 1 image or 2 images towards my 20 image maximum?
Diptychs count as 1 image. The two images should coherently work together to be viewed as one image. Be careful not to include diptychs just to show more work

When will I be notified if I get selected to be a participant?
The class of XXXII for The Eddie Adams Workshop will be announced by mid July, 2019. Please do not email us to find out when the announcements go out.
