Guest Room aims to spark collaboration. Johanna Neuschäffer and Anne Schwanz, founders of the multi-dimensional space and platform for contemporary art OFFICE IMPART, have decided to collaborate with the artist Christian Mio Loclair, who works at the interface of artistic and scientific research.
Together, they have developed the following framework for your submissions: “Simultaneity”.
The complexity of our time can be described wonderfully with the word simultaneity. An either/or categorization becomes obsolete and truths and principles that seem to contradict each other enter into synergy. Creative processes and AI, natural phenomena and the metaverse, everyday processes and algorithms - how do these simultaneities have an effect on photographic image production?

OFFICE IMPART is a multi-dimensional space and platform for contemporary art. Our activities take place on site in Berlin – or anywhere. We, the founders Anne and Johanna, are experts for (and on) changing the art world. We develop exhibitions on- and offline, with classically produced and digital works. We build bridges to art – and sell it. The typical question whether we are a gallery, we therefore basically answer with: "Yes, too!“
Christian Mio Loclair is a German artist who works at the interface of artistic and scientific research. Using custom algorithms, data and digital devices, Loclair creates sculptures, video works and installations to continuously portray the aesthetics and frictions of both human and digital identity. In his work, the artist explores the contrast between natural phenomenons and data-driven algorithms. On the one hand, his works examine the creative and societal potential of artificial intelligence, while, on the other hand, they reflect on the only supposedly opposing myth of man and machine. Loclair focusses on novel aesthetic identities that derive from the interplay of mathematical and poetic research. This is not only reflected in his work, but also in his interdisciplinary development: in his practice, he combines and reflects his expertise and experience as a computer scientist, visual artist, choreographer and dancer.
Guest Room is a monthly online exhibition with open submissions curated in real-time by personalities from the international photography scene. Der Greif is an award-winning organization for contemporary photography. It is print-publication, online-publication, curatorial team and joint project all at once. Der Greif connects the digital and the analogue, exploring and expanding the borders and limits of image-distribution and -reception in the digital era.
After over a decade of serving the international photography community Der Greif is now finally a registered non-profit. We believe this organizational structure best reflects our artistic and cultural mission. As always, your artistic contribution makes our work on Der Greif possible.
Since starting Guest Room in January 2015, we’ve been working hard to invite a broad range of practitioners, from gallerists to editors and curators. We are convinced that this format is an interesting and low-barrier approach to help artists get their work in front of people who might be interested in working with them. For this reason, we are asking you to consider making a financial contribution as well. That’s why we’re suggesting a voluntary donation of 6 € as a submission fee. 100% of the funds we collect from your donations will go towards helping us continue providing interesting opportunities for the photography community through Guest Room, and thus expand Der Greif.
We believe in inclusivity. We don’t want this suggested donation to stand in the way of your submission. If you are unable to contribute financially, please send an email to voucher@dergreif.org to receive a voucher code which will allow you to enter for free.
