Guest Room aims to spark collaborations. That’s why Mariama Attah is teaming up with Daniel C. Blight in choosing the theme for this instalment. Daniel is a writer based in London. He works on various forms of the essay, fiction and poetry, and has written for 1000 Words, Aperture, Foam, frieze, The Guardian, Vogue Italia and more. His first book, is entitled "The Image of Whiteness: Contemporary Photography and Racialization". He is Lecturer (Assistant Professor), Historical & Critical Studies in Photography, School of Media, University of Brighton.

The framework for your submissions is:

“Bodies of Knowledge“
This pulls together their shared areas of interest of representation, empathy and overlooked communities, but can extend to how we come to "know” photography/images, and also calls for new types of knowledge to be created with respect to different ways of looking and seeing.

Voluntary donation

After over a decade of serving the international photography community Der Greif is now finally a registered non-profit. We believe this organizational structure best reflects our artistic and cultural mission. As always, your artistic contribution makes our work on Der Greif possible.

Since starting Guest Room in January 2015, we’ve been working hard to invite a broad range of practitioners, from gallerists to editors and curators. We are convinced that this format is an interesting and low-barrier approach to help artists get their work in front of people who might be interested in working with them. For this reason, we are asking you to consider making a financial contribution as well. That’s why we’re suggesting a voluntary donation of 5 € as a submission fee. 100% of the funds we collect from your donations will go towards helping us continue providing interesting opportunities for the photography community through Guest Room, and thus expand Der Greif.

Mariama Attah is a photography curator, editor and lecturer with a particular interest in overlooked visual histories, and using photography and visual culture to amplify under and misrepresented voices. Mariama is curator of Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool. She was previously Assistant Editor of Foam Magazine. Prior to this, she was Curator of Photoworks, where was responsible for developing and curating programs and events including Brighton Photo Biennial and was Commissioning and Managing Editor of the yearly magazine Photoworks Annual.
